A National Historic Landmark saved by the community it served.

In 2018, Frontier Nursing University (successor to the FNS) relocated to Versailles, Kentucky. For three years, they managed Wendover remotely, but the house sat quiet, its future uncertain.

Then, in July 2021, local stewards stepped forward. Leslie County Betterment, Inc. — a nonprofit rooted in the same spirit of service Mary embodied — took ownership. They formed the Wendover Preservation Council, a group of volunteers committed to preserving this living piece of history.

Today, Wendover is open to the world. You can stay in Mary's home, walk the same halls she walked, stand on the dogtrot where nurse-midwives once gathered after long days in the saddle. This isn't a museum frozen in time — it's a working heritage site, hosting guests, researchers, and pilgrims drawn to Mary's legacy of service.
